The Design
of your Log Home
The Design of Your Log Home
Anything you want, any design you want, any floor
plan you want, any exterior look you want, it can all be yours.
We may be asked to move some of the walls in one of our standard
plans, or take one of our 2000 square foot floor plans and add two
bedrooms, a home office, two bathrooms and maybe a loft. The end
result may be a 3200 square foot home. Our design department will
work with you to create the exact floor plan that meets your needs.
Customers often give us a floor plan that they cut out of magazines
or newspapers, or they may supply us with a floor plan from another
manufacturer. They simply bring us the plan and we make the modifications
that they want, and then we easily adjust the engineering to meet
our building system and standards.
Still another way is for you to sketch out something for us. All
we need is a very basic sketch to give us an idea of what you are
looking for. Then our design department will begin to work it up,
and it is all based on your initial thoughts. With the slimmest
direction from you we can start your floor plan then work with you
until you have exactly what you want. Or, we can work with your
designer, if you have someone drawing plans for you.
As you can see, there are
many routes to follow. Remember that A Century Cedar Log Home is
a custom home designed expressly for you.

Structual Engineering
Structural engineering is required or recommended
in the following areas: California, Nevada, Northern Utah, and some
counties in Colorado and Arizona.
The cost of structural engineering is generally 90¢ to $1.50
per square foot of heated floor space depending on the location.
Since several of the locations that we serve do not require structural
engineering, the cost of structural engineering is not refunded
or deducted from the purchase price of the log home kit.
Our Product
Every Century Cedar Log Home is warm and inviting,
and a cozy place to live. It is also a place that you can be very
proud of; after all, it is a Post and Beam structure, the finest
construction method known.
We use Western Cedar for log walls, gables, and exterior trim. Western
Cedar is a top rated wood for its workability, resistance to rot
and insects, and low moisture content. Time tested Douglas Fir timbers
are used for exposed floor and rafter systems. All materials are
hand selected to assure a quality appearance.
We kiln dry our logs to a moisture content compatible with your
building site. Moisture readings are taken from the center of the
log, not at the surface, to ensure an accurate measurement. Dry
material is crucial to minimize checking and shrinkage.
Our company is located in "Cedar Country" which allows
us to secure the best Western Cedar and Douglas Fir available in
the Western United States for our customers. We ship directly from
our mill to your job site. Our log kits are pre-cut and ready for
installation.
